We have recently overhauled our working practices, working with advisers from the Manufacturing Advisory Service, to improve our workflow and lead times. This has involved using tools and techniques such as 5S and the seven wastes. Our lead times have been reduced by approximately two weeks, and in some cases we are able to offer an even quicker service by planning the workload through the factory to give optimum output. Visitors will be able to see what improvements have been made and how they work to save time and energy which can be concentrated on manufacture of goods rather than being dissipated through lack of organisation and order.

In our continuing commitment to be an environmental leader, Morgan established an aggressive plan in 2004 to reduce overall impact on the environment, so as to significantly reduce consumption of raw materials, energy usage, volatile organic compounds( VOCs), landfill waste recovery and disposal and water usage. We aim to be proactive in our environmental efforts rather than just striving to meet regulations.Our company gives consideration to designing furniture in such a way as to reduce its overall environmental impact throughout its life cycle. We continually assess the environmental impact of our operations and, through minimising the use of materials and resources, we are reducing our wastage to the lowest practical level.We recognise the environmental impact on VOCs that are contained in finishing products such as stains and varnishes used in the polishing process. Where practical, we source our varnishes from suppliers of such products with a commitment to reduce the VOC content of the products that we use.Waste production is being minimised where possible. Where unavoidable, waste streams will be evaluated for their reuse and recycling potential, and we ensure that our stains are disposed of responsibly. We are following the principle of Lean Manufacture with its focus on the reduction of Seven Wastes, and encourage our employees to recognise their responsibilities regarding the protection of the environment through training and discussion.
